The Faculty of Physical Education and Health welcomes you to volunteer at the Athletic Centre and Varsity Centre. We are a unique Faculty at U of T, responsible for both curricular programs (undergraduate and graduate) and co-curricular activities (intercollegiate and intramural athletics, campus recreation and community programming). We are always looking for students who are interested in getting involved in our energetic and dynamic community.
We require volunteers in a variety of capacities. Opportunities include: helping out at special events, conferences and workshops, with research projects, intramurals sports, CAMP U of T, intercollegiate games, administrative tasks, and governance.
Involvement in Governance
The Faculty of Physical Education and Health involves hundreds of students in governance, including Faculty Council, Council of Athletics and Recreation (CAR) visit the athletics councils/committees page, Graduate (PHEGS) and Undergraduate (PHEUA) Student Councils, Intramural Sports Council and Committees (ISC), and the Varsity Board. Internal Volunteer Opportunities
The University of Toronto is hosting the top eight women’s soccer teams in Canada for the CIS soccer championships on Nov. 12 – 15 and we are recruiting volunteers to assist with the event. The information below details the requirements for volunteers and outlines some of the opportunities that would be available to them. Interested students can complete this form and return it to jen.leake@utoronto.ca via email or drop it off in the program office area.
Commitment/Age requirement
Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of two days of the tournament (1 shift per day). Preference will be given to those volunteers who are available for more shifts. Volunteers must be a minimum of 16 years old.
Orientation and Training
Volunteers will be required to attend an orientation session at Varsity Centre, Blue and White Room on either Friday Nov. 6 from 4 – 5:30 or Monday Nov. 9 from 7 – 8:30 pm.
Roles Available:
Hospitality/Hosting: Assist with hosting athletes, VIPS, coaches, officials and invited guests by setting up rooms and signage, food preparation and replenishing, providing directions and customer service, helping with AV equipment during presentations and other duties throughout the championships. Excellent communication skills and welcoming attitude are required. Bilingualism is an asset.
Registration/Accreditation: Assist with the preparation of registration and accreditation packages as well as verifying attendance and welcoming groups and individuals to the University of Toronto. Volunteers will be required to provide directional and event assistance to visitors. Excellent communications skills, welcoming attitude, attention to detail are required. Bilingualism is an asset.
Community events, Children and Youth: Assist with the delivery of soccer programs to children and youth from schools and community groups throughout the championship. Enthusiasm, leadership and a sense of fun are required.
Community events, Women in Sport: Assist with the delivery of panels, symposiums and other leadership events celebrating women in soccer. Duties might include assisting with signage, AV support, and promotional materials. Excellent communication skills, support for women in sport and a welcoming attitude are required.
Promotions and Marketing: Assist with the set up and facilitation of sponsor tables, giveaways, sales and contests. An outgoing personality is a must!
Sports Information and Media Relations: Assist with sports information and media relations including maintaining scores and standings throughout the facility, hosting of media including food set up and cleaning, assisting with television production. Volunteers should be familiar with soccer and have some experience in sports information or media.
