Supervision requirements
Parents/guardians are responsible for their children at all times. Children 12 years of age and younger must be supervised by an adult at all times. Some facilities have their own supervision requirements; please ask if you have any questions.
Drop-in Programs
Family gym, skating, squash and swimming are all available for children of Athletic Centre members and children of University of Toronto students. Please see the Athletic Centre Guide for more information or call the Main Office at 416-978-3436.
All adults entering the facility for drop-in programming must be members of the Athletic Centre or purchase a guest pass.
A Teaching Health Centre
The Faculty of Physical Education and Health is a teaching health centre. Health research and academic instruction are conducted alongside our co-curricular programs. Many Junior Blues instructors and staff are also students, putting into practice the theories they learn in the classroom via our academic and co-curricular programs. Junior Blues participants may be asked to participate in our physical education and health research on a voluntary basis. We ask all participants to be respectful of the learning environment.Parents!
Why not get in a workout while your little ones play? We have year-long, four-month andone-month memberships. Day passes are also available. For more information contact the
Main Office at 416-978-3436. Parents without memberships cannot use the facilities while their children are attending programs.
Children of UofT students DISCOUNT
Children of U of T students receive a 15% discount off the regular community fee. The University of Toronto student must be the main contact for the family account for children to receive this fee. This discount is for full- and part-time students.
Children of Athletic Centre Members
Children of Athletic Centre members receive a 10% discount off the regular community fee. Parents/guardians who register their children online will be required to pay the Community fee and the discount will be applied to the credit card used for the transaction within three weeks. Parents/guardians who register their children by other methods will have the discount applied by Information Services staff.
Cancellations
Classes are occasionally cancelled due to special events or holidays. Cancelled classes are listed on your receipt and on our website at www.juniorblues.ca.
Refund Policy/Cancellations
CLASSES
Participants will be refunded the full program amount less a cancellation fee of 10% of the registration fee or $5, whichever is greater. In order to receive this refund, participants must withdraw prior to the second class. We do not offer discounts for unattended days in any program.
March Break camps
Participants will be refunded the full program amount less a cancellation fee of 10% of the registration prior to March 1, 2008. We do not offer discounts for unattended days in any program.
Refunds for medical reasons
Participants withdrawing for medical reasons will receive a full refund for the remainder of the program. A doctor’s note will be requested. Notes must be received within two weeks of the date of illness.
Refund policy for full year registrations
Some programs, such as the Gymnastics Girls Enhanced program and the Track and Field Trackniques program, require full year registration. To withdraw from these programs, a participant will be charged an administrative fee equal to the amount of the fees for the upcoming month. For example, a participant who leaves during January will be charged the amount equal to February fees. Refunds for full year programs will not be considered after March 1, 2008 except for medical reasons.
Program Cancellations and low enrollment
The Faculty reserves the right to cancel a program due to low enrolment. Classes may be combined if enrolment is low.
Athletic Centre Change rooms
Children 5 years and younger may use either gender change room under adult supervision. Children 6 years and older must use gender-specific change rooms or family/privacy change rooms. We recommend children be supervised by adults in the main change rooms.Accessibility, Equity and Diversity
The Faculty of Physical Education and Health is committed to equity and inclusiveness and is working to develop fully accessible programs, services and facilities. We welcome all members of the community and encourage our members to participate in our wide variety of programs.
The Faculty has identified an accessibility coordinator to assist people with special needs. You may contact Susan Lee at ss.lee@utoronto.ca or 416-978-5655.
Allergies & Other Medical Conditions
Allergies – particularly severe allergies to nuts – have become an increasing problem. To ensure the safety of all Junior Blues participants, do not send your child to the facility with snacks containing nut products. If your child has allergies or any medical condition that we should be aware of, please let us know at the time of registration. Please also speak with your child’s instructor about any
conditions that could impact your child’s experience.
In the event of an emergency we will make every attempt to contact the parent(s) or guardian(s) listed on the account. If we are unable to reach parents/guardians we will contact the person listed as the alternate emergency contact. Please keep the contact information (home phone, cell phone or work phone) current on your family account. Call the main offi ce at 416-978-3436 to update your account.
Sick Children - When To Stay Home
A sick child can infect other participants and staff and runs a greater risk of injury in sport and recreation programs. If your child has any of these symptoms within 24 hours of his/her scheduled program, please keep him/her at home:• Fever
• Diarrhea – defined as two or more loose stools**
• Vomiting – more than once
• Rash or other skin infection, including persistent itching or scratching
• Excessive coughing, wheezing or a runny nose with green or yellow mucus
** When people are ill with diarrhea, their stool can contain millions of germs. If someone with diarrhea contaminates the pool water, swallowing the water can make others sick. If a child has any diarrhea, he/she should remain at home and not participate in swimming. For more information, visit www.healthyswimming.com.
Pictures
For permission to take photos in our facility, please contact the program manager or email junior.blues@utoronto.ca for more information. Aquatics, gymnastics and skating have designated picture weeks for parents/guardians to take photos. Watch for signs announcing picture week. Because the field house is used for many other activities while Junior Blues is taking place, soccer, tennis and track and field do not have picture weeks.
