Stepping Up
The Office of Alumni Affairs and Advancement at the Faculty of Physical Education and Health is committed to raising funds to support the student experience through fellowships, scholarships, and state-of-the-art renovated academic and athletic facilities.
Divisional Financial Goal: $40.7 million
Student Support
Graduate Fellowships: $800,000 – Endowed
To successfully attract outstanding graduate students from Canada and internationally, the Faculty will increase the compensation and support services for graduate students in the core exercise science disciplines. The target will be to endow 8 Graduate Fellowships at $6,000 each including matching amounts. Funds will also be available to offset conference travel and expenses for equipment and resources that are associated with the student’s research project.
Undergraduate Scholarships and Student Aid: $1.8 million – Endowed and Expendable
Expansion of current scholarships for both academic and co-curricular programs, through endowed and expendable funds, will provide assistance that will enable students to pursue their academic interests as well as be recognized for their athletic achievements.
Student Research Fund: $300,000, Expendable
Equipment will be purchased that provides a practical "hands-on" learning experience in selected undergraduate courses. The Fund will also be used to support attendance at conferences and collaborative research initiatives that advance the mission of the Faculty.
Varsity Blues Legacy Fund: $4.7 million – Endowed and Expendable funds will be raised to enhance the operating budgets for each of the 46 intercollegiate teams.
Capital Projects
Varsity Centre and Arena Renovation: $31.8 million – Capital
Revitalizing these heritage facilities for multi use field and ice sports will be a University of Toronto wide priority. There will be enhanced opportunities for students and members of the university’s communities to compete, learn, coach, play, watch, cheer and celebrate physical activity at all levels of ability, experience and interest, in a welcoming state-of-the-art facility.
Athletic and Physical Education Centre, Facilities and Equipment $1.6 million – Expendable
The highest priority for improved facilities is the renovation of the Benson Building Sports Gym to replace the stands, add a new electronic scoreboard, two hardwood floors in the field house and a sound system. Equipment for strength and conditioning and air conditioning are also high priorities.
