PHE Career Mentorship Program

The Faculty of Physical Education and Health sees great value in connecting PHE and Exercise Sciences alumni with our current undergraduate students as they explore career options. Thus, we have set up a mentorship program, where we connect alumni with students that are interested in their specific field.

What do alumni mentors do?

The mentor is a motivator and counsellor to a current undergraduate student. Responsibilities include:

  1. discussing personal career path;
  2. helping the student understand organizational culture in a specific field;
  3. recommending and/or creating learning opportunities;
  4. pointing out strengths and areas for students’ improvement;
  5. being able to act as a resource for networking and job opportunities after students’ graduation.
  6. meeting with a student in person at least two times over the course of the academic year, and being available as a resource by email or phone.

How does mentoring benefit the mentor?

Mentoring provides an alumnus with the opportunity to:

  1. reconnect with his/her alma mater and give back through voluntarism;
  2. contribute to a student’s development;
  3. develop leadership skills;
  4. make connections with future leaders in health and physical education.

How does mentoring benefit the student?

Being mentored is an invaluable experience for students, especially in the early stages of their academic undergraduate careers. Benefits include:

  1. enhanced understanding of the realities of a career and organizational awareness;
  2. gaining wisdom, advice, and encouragement from those who have been in their shoes before;
  3. networking with professionals in students’ field of interest.

If you’d like to be a part of this exciting, new program, please fill out the form below, and we’ll do our best to match you with a mentee as soon as possible.
